Beneath the Arches: ‘Big Cheese’ & Wine at A‑X‑I‑S
In celebration of the launch of the Café Mountain x Padmore & Barnes Big Cheese, we hosted an intimate Cheese and Wine night at A-X-I-S, an atmospheric bar and bottleshop just a short walk from our Newcastle upon Tyne studio.
On a wet and windswept December evening on the south bank of the River Tyne, guests gathered beneath the railway arches of Wellington Street to mark the launch, and subsequent sell-out, of our second collaboration with storied Irish shoemakers Padmore & Barnes.
Set within A-X-I-S’s characterful space, the night brought together a considered selection of cheese and wine pairings, soundtracked by a steady flow of music and conversation. A simple format, designed to slow things down and give people time to connect, with each other, and with the product.
Known for its carefully curated range of wines and beers sourced from both local producers and those further afield, A-X-I-S provided the perfect backdrop for the evening. The informal setting mirrored the spirit of the collaboration itself, rooted in craft, tradition and shared values, without feeling overworked.
As with the ‘Big Cheese’, the event was about celebrating good materials, good company and the spaces that bring them together. Thanks to everyone who joined us.
